Services

On Friday, December 26 our Erev Shabbat Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a Wine Gathering at 5:15 p.m.  The Service will be followed by the congregational Chanukkah dinner and program including singing, crafts for kids, dreidel spinning and Texas Hold'em Dreidel.  Reservations are required for dinner.  The dinner is sold out.

 

On Saturday, December 27 our Shabbat Service will be held at 10:00 a.m.

 

Our next Family Erev Shabbat Service will be held on Friday, January 2 at 6:00 p.m.  The Service will be preceded by a Wine and Cheese Gathering at 5:15 p.m. sponsored by Harold Tick in honor of his mother Marge's birthday.

 

On Saturday, January 3 our Shabbat Service will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Tuesday, January 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Josh Levin 'My Israel Experience', sponsored by the Women of Sinai.  There is no fee for this program. 

 

Sunday, January 18 at 9:00 a.m. Men's Club Paid Up Breakfast.  The speaker will be Rabbi Ari Shapiro who will discuss Jews in prison.

 

On Sunday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m. Sarasota's own Gerry Daniel will be honored by  ARZA: The Association of Reform Zionists of America.  The keynote speaker will be Rabbi Eric Yoffie, President of the Union for Reform Judaism.  The cost to attend is $10.  Checks should be mailed to Lori Lander Goodman, ARZA, 633 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017. 

 

Tuesday, January 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our Jewish Ethiopian Experience, with Nelle Miller and Terry Blumenstein.  There is no fee for this program. 

 

Sunday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. Temple Sinai's Chai Celebration.  An evening of food, fun, delicious desserts, beer, wine and entertainment celebrating Temple Sinai's 18th year.  Invitations will be mailed out shortly.

 

Tuesday, February 3 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Challah Baking Class, facilitated by Melissa Schildkraut and Michelle Colburn of Challahpalooza.  The cost is $18 per person; make checks payable to Temple Sinai.  You must RSVP to the temple office with your check to obtain a supply list for the class.

 

 

Temple Sinai's Scholar in Residence

February 6 through February 8 

Our scholar in residence is Rabbi David Forman.  Rabbi Forman is the former director of the Israel office in Jerusalem of the URJ and founding chairperson of Israeli Rabbis for Human Rights, on whose behalf he accepted the prestigious Knesset Peace Prize.  Rabbi Forman writes regularly for both the Israeli Hebrew and English press on social, political and religious issues.

12:00 p.m. Kiddush Luncheon and a continuation of the morning's discussion; $15 for members; $20 for non members

9:00 a.m. Bagel Nosh 50 Ways to be Jewish; no charge

Join the Sinai Men's Club, Temple Beth Sholom, and the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation for a Post Super Bowl Golf Bash on February 8, 8:30 a.m. at  the Laurel Oaks Country Club.  Open to ladies and gentlemen, shotgun scramble, teams of 4.  Limited to the first 128 players so assemble your team and make your reservations early.  The cost is $100 per golfer which includes prizes, continental breakfast, lunch and gifts.   For information call Vic Block at 907-0892 or Marc Rosen at 358-6252.

Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m.  Gelt for the Gan Fundraiser.  Support Early Childhood Education at The Gan at Temple Sinai.  Silent and live auctions, cocktails, hors d'oeuvers by Michaels on East, and live entertainment.  Proceeds will help The Gan expand programs, enrich learning experiences and maintain the highest standards for a local preschool.  The cost is $20 per adult with RSVP, $25 at the door.  Babysitting for the little ones (RSVP required, $5 per child from 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.)  Forms are available in the office.  RSVP reservations accepted until February 2, make checks payable to The Gan at Temple Sinai.  For further information call Bethany Leinweber at 926-9462.

 

Upgrading or downsizing your TV?  The temple is looking for a 40-42" thin-screen TV (with base) to use for showing DVDs.  If you have one to spare, please contact Sue Huntting, Interim Religious School Director, at 922-9322.  Record of donation will be provided for tax purposes.
