HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS
Often we think of the fall months
as the busiest time of the Jewish year because
of all of the fall Jewish holidays. But
I've always felt that the spring was much
busier, and this year won't prove me wrong.
Below you will find a list of
spring dates to mark on your calendar now
so you can plan to be part of some great
events coming up.
However, at the risk of choosing
favorites, I urge you to participate in one of
the Temple's Chai (18th) Celebration upcoming
events.
Anniversaries are important to
celebrate. They help us mark time and
remind us of where we've been and what we've
accomplished. Eighteen years ago a group
of people joined together to create a new
temple community. The Hunttings didn't
arrive until three years later, but I've often been
in awe of those who assumed this
tremendous undertaking.
Eighteen is what is called a
"good" Jewish number (like 7, or 10,
or 40). In Hebrew the number 18 is
written with the letters chet
and yud
which are pronounced "chai."
And since the Hebrew word "chai"
means "life" we've come to associate
18 with wishes for a good and long life.
So, this year we not only
celebrate Temple Sinai's accomplishments, but
also commit ourselves to ensuring a good and
long life for our congregation. I hope
you and your children will participate in
marking this important anniversary in the life
of our congregation.
L'chaim! And may we
continue to go from strength to strength.
