Services

Our Erev Shabbat Service will be held on Friday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m.  The Service will be preceded by a Wine and Cheese Gathering sponsored by Gwen Baseman in celebration of the Scholar in Residence Weekend with Rabbi David Forman.  Rabbi Forman will discuss Elections in the USA and the Upcoming Israeli Election.

 

On Saturday, February 7 our Shabbat Morning Service will held at 10:00 a.m.  Rabbi David Forman will deliver the sermon: The Search for Peace: Terror and Occupation vs Morality.

 

Our next Erev Shabbat Service will be held on Friday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m.  The Service will be followed by an Oneg.

 

On Saturday, February 14 our Shabbat Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. when Jack Berry will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah.

 

Announcements

On Monday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. Americans for Peace Now and the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation will sponsor the concluding session in this year's series of community forums on Israel at Temple Sinai. The speaker will be Daniel Seidermann, who will discuss "The Future of Jerusalem: Can Jews and Arabs Live Together in Peace"?  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information call Barbara Grauer at 383-8580. 

 

There will be no Adult Learning classes on Tuesday evening, February 10.  Classes will resume on Tuesday evening, February 17.

 

Are your grandchildren being raised in an interfaith home?  Join a FREE 5-session education and support experience to learn techniques for nurturing Jewish identity for these grandchildren.  Offered nationally and locally co-sponsored by Temple Sinai and JFCS,  the Grandparents Circle will start on Tuesday, February 24 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and will continue for 5 consecutive Tuesdays.  The workshops will be facilitated by Beverly Mishkin, LCSW, and Sue Huntting, MAJE/MAJCS.  For more information or to register, call 922-9322 or email at GrandparentsC@aol.com.

 

Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m.  Gelt for the Gan Fundraiser.  Support Early Childhood Education at The Gan at Temple Sinai.  Silent auctions items  include Kennedy Space Center tickets, a weekend getaway at Hibiscus suites, Disney World tickets, tuition discount for 2009-2010 school year, and much, much, more.  The Raffle includes 2 tickets to our Gala in April.  Raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20.  The 50/50 Raffle tickets are $1 each.  The cocktails and hors d'oeuvers will be catered by Michaels on East, and there will be live entertainment.  Proceeds will help The Gan expand programs, enrich learning experiences and maintain the highest standards for a local preschool.  Admission to the event is $25 at the door.  For further information call Bethany Leinweber at 926-9462.   

 

The Gan is in need of nice baskets of all sizes to assemble the auction items for Gelt for The Gan.  If you have baskets to donate, please bring them to the school office.  If you have questions please call Bethany Leinweber at 926-9462.

Purim! Purim! Purim!  Our Purim festivities kick off with Purimpalooza on Sunday, March 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Carnival games, dunk tank, bounce house, relay games, pizza, cake walk and fun for the whole family and guests!  Tickets go on sale March 1.  Don your dancing shoes for the Purim Service and Schpiel on Monday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. followed by our Purim dinner and raffle drawing (reservations required).  The cost for dinner reservations is $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 through 13.  There is no charge for children under the age of 5.  Make checks payable to Temple Sinai.  Seating is limited to 200, so get your reservations in early.  Forms are available in the office and on the membership table in the social hall prior to Services.  This year's theme is Disco -- so bring out the polyester and get ready to boogie!

 

The Women of Sinai invite you to the 7th annual Mah Jongg-Mah Jongg and More!  Please join us on Thursday, March 19 from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Temple Sinai social hall for a continental breakfast, good fun, luncheon, and good times!  The cost is $18 per person.  Flyers are available in the temple office, on the membership table in the social hall prior to Services, and will also be available in the upcoming TABLET.  For further information call Maxine Pintchuck at 966-2980 or Marcia Weil at 927-0170.
