In addition to weekly Erev Shabbat and Shabbat Morning Services, Temple Sinai conducts a complete array of Holiday Services. Rabbi Huntting and Hazzan Abramson lead the services, accompanied by Christine Bruno, and rounded out by our Sinai Singers. All services have a wonderful mix of Hebrew and English and invite congregational singing and participation.
The High Holiday season starts with Selichot; the service is usually preceded by a program and followed by a dessert reception. The Temple conducts full Rosh Hashanah Services, including a less formal service on Day two. Tashlich and Shabbat Shuva services are often held outside. In addition to the formal Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur Morning Services, we have a creative Yom Kippur Afternoon/Yizkor Service. A cellist adds to the beauty of the service. Following the Shofar blast, a congregational Break-the-Fast ends the Holiday. During the High Holidays, special children’s services are also held.
The Women of Sinai lead Sukkot Services and the festive Simchat Torah Services are rollicking with children waving flags and carrying Torahs! Of course, there is plenty of food associated with both. The more somber Shemini Atzeret Yizkor Service ends the High Holiday Season.
Hannukah with its lights and latkes and Purim with its merriment follow. The Purim Service includes the telling of the Story of Esther by the “Sinai Players”, who use a different theme each year to bring a novel, instructive, and fun approach to the Holiday. Just be careful not to trip over all the little Mordecais, Queen Esthers, and Hamans (Boo!). The Temple holds a participative Pesach Seder on the first night of Passover. The combination of the meal and the story telling from the Haggadah brings out families that fill the social hall. Again a Yizkor Service ends the Holiday. Erev Shavu’ot the Rabbi leads a Tikkun Liel study session. The Shavu’ot Yizkor Service ends our Holiday Services for the year.
Some of our Holiday services are somber and some are festive, but all are spiritually uplifting and help to bring insight and contentment. Come out and see for yourself!
Please check with the Temple Office to confirm the date and time of the service for the Holidays listed. Starred services ( **} are open to the public, all other services require member tickets.
