Brown Bag

Rabbi Churgel will continue the long standing tradition of hosting a brown bag lunch on Wednesdays.

12:15 to 1:15 in the Social Hall.  Beginning November 2, 2016  (on hiatus for Summer 2017)
Open to all who are interested (and often passionate) about local, national and world events, Rabbi Churgel’s  Brown Bag group is a forum for exploring the Jewish and ethical issues behind the news. Come prepared to vigorously debate current events and enter into discussions that are timely and stimulating. Everyone is welcome.

Unpacking the Tanakh; An in-depth study of the Bible

Wednesdays, 9:15 to 10:15 AM in Social Hall A.  Beginning November 2.

An in-depth study, word by word of the Torah.  Drop in anytime!  No charge and open to the community.  Bring your own Tanakh to each session. 


Liturgy Workshop: Honors and Aliyot

Tuesday Evenings.  (on hold)  7:30 PM to 9:00 PM in the Chapel.  Free to temple members.  Register through the office. This workshop will delve into the many parts of our worship service and ceremony to help participants better understand and feel comfortable participating in our services.  Rabbi and Chazzan will both be leading this workshop series!

Torah Chanters

At the High Holy Days, Festival Services and Shabbat throughout the year, our lay people often take the lead in  chanting Torah and Haftarah.  If you are able to chant or are interested in studying the ancient art of Torah cantillation, please contact Chazzan Cliff Abramson at


Reb Ari Shapiro workshop offering:

Maimonides Guide to the Perplexed for the 21st Century.  Begins Wednesday, November 2 and runs through May 2017.  3:00 to 4:30 PM.  Free for Temple members, $18 for non-members.

Beginning and Intermediate Hebrew

For those interested in learning to read prayer book Hebrew and what the prayers mean, two levels are offered throughout the year.  Check with the Main Office to see when the next class starts.
Private Hebrew reading tutoring is also available.  


Rosh Chodesh Women's Study Group

Rosh Chodesh, occurring monthly, as a celebration of the "New Moon" is a holiday specifically for women and celebrated by women.  Our gatherings take place on the Friday closest to the actual Rosh Chodesh date:  we meet from 11:00 AM to 12::00 PM in Room 2 of the school wing,  An optional lunch, offsite follows.  Our creative gatherings are facilitated by one or two group members and include innovative programming in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. There is no charge.  All women are invited to participate.
